Edge 2013 Ambuj Goyal GM Storage & Networking IBM mentioned BVQ in the opening session, as an example for extending Storwize/SVC with analytics
"… 2nd generation SDS was,to convert Storwize to industry led innovations, by extending with open standards.. so any company can write capabilities on it … SVA doing analytics … " he talked about BVQ from SVA
We had some time now, were we helped the IBM labs to test BVQ as an extension to Storwize and it worked.
Future thinking - why not? - adding products like BVQ as a configurable onboard plugin for performance analytics, like XIV had from the beginning. XIV is famous for its interface and its monitoring capabilities - no other storage system could show anything near to it.
My thinking was always that this onboard performance monitoring is a minimum a need to have! XIV did a very good job with this!
BVQ covers Storwize/SVC monitoring, to keep an eye on performance plus deepest analytic capabilities, to find and solve performance problems and much more.
So a plugin or onboard extension might be future but BVQ is present so if you need to monitor and analyze SVC or Storwize you can just install BVQ.
It needs one server, 2 hours of time and things are running.
