As a request from one of our customers, we created a new metric called
Overallocation coverage in BVQ version 5.3.1.
Basically this is the ratio of over-allocated thin/compressed capacity covered by a pool or cluster:
What is the advantage of having this metric?
It shows very easily how well the space efficient VDisks are covered by storage capacities.
In some cases, especially in very static environments, you know that you do not need this coverage. This value may then be small.
However, in more dynamic environments, storage requirements may increase rapidly.
In these cases this metric should be monitored tightly or incorporated into BVQ Alerting.
To get a better understanding of this feature, we have created a Whitepaper with additional information
BVQ version 5.3.1 is available as family and friends release today - send us a note when you are interested to test it.
