Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS uses an agent named IBM Tivoli Monitoring Agent for Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS to send events and alerts to IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM).
Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS establishes an IP connection with the Socket Data Source of the Tivoli Monitoring agent which acts like a listener task. Every time one of the monitored operations changes its status, or an alert is issued, the related event is sent to the Tivoli Monitoring agent. The data sent by Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS is interpreted by the Tivoli Monitoring agent. The agent stores the event information in its cache and this information is later consolidated by the Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server. The collected data is then retrieved and displayed by a component named Tivoli Enterprise Portal. The Tivoli Enterprise Portal is an interactive interface used for viewing and monitoring your enterprise network. The Tivoli Enterprise Portal client connects to the Tivoli Enterprise Portal server that enables retrieval, manipulation, and analysis of data collected by all existing IBM Tivoli Monitoring agents in your enterprise. You can use the Tivoli Enterprise Portal to display and manage events related to Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS operations such as operation start and end time. In the same way, you can configure the automatic selection of monitored operations and subtasks, providing a single point of management and control for the resources of your enterprise.
To allow integration with IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS, ensure that the following components are installed on one of the supported operating systems: Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server (TEMS) Collects and controls the events received from the agents, using a proprietary database to store all the monitoring information. It is the core component of IBM Tivoli Monitoring. Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server (TEPS) Enables retrieval, manipulation, and analysis of data from the agents.Tivoli Enterprise Portal (TEP) The Java-based user interface of the Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server for viewing and monitoring your enterprise. Tivoli Monitoring agent Forwards to TEMS the events captured on IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS.
Starting from Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS 9.1 provides a new agenr to comunicate with the ITM 6.2
This is an example to install and configure the ITM agent for TWS for z/OS with TEMS and TEPS installed on the same system:
Untar the IBM Tivoli Monitoring Agent for Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS
To install agent execute below command
“./installIra.sh <ITM installation directory> [[-h <TEMS hostname>] -u
< TEMS username> [-p <TEMS password>]] [-r]”
Configure the ITM agent by the commad:
./itmcmd config -A gw (where gw is the product code of out ITM agent)
A new entry will be available in the Tivoli Monitoring Service:
Double click on it and spcify the data for the instance (a unique name and a port that after will be used in the MONOPTS parameter of the TWS for z/OS engine)
The ITM agent is now installed and configure in TEP.
Start and stop the agent by executing the command:
./itmcmd agent -o <instance name> start < Product Code >
./itmcmd agent -o <instance name> stop < Product Code >
Where Product code of Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS ITM agent is gw
After the start, the agent will be available on the TEP console
