Technical Blog Post

Abstract

Step-by-Step silent install example

Body

With the new release of Rational Developer for i now available, there may be companies looking to install the new release on all their developer machines.  In particular, they might be looking for a way to get it installed without manually doing it on each machine.

The technote /support/pages/node/242567 describes how to install Rational Developer for i at the latest level on multiple developer machines.  The technote was recently updated to use RDi 9.5 as an example.  It showed how to install RDi 9.5.1.2 with its activation kit with the different mechanisms available.  (RDi 9.6 was not used for the example since it does have fixpacks yet.)

The technote also added a Step-by-Step example for the silent install mechanism /support/pages/node/242567#SILENTINSTALL.  The silent install mechanism is a convenient way to perform the same install on multiple machines.  The technote shows the command to run to generate a silent install response file, what the silent install response file looks like, and the command to run that uses the silent install response file to perform the same install on another machine.
