Introducing IBM Bare Metal Servers for Oracle Workloads

3 min read

We are excited to announce the availability of IBM Bare Metal Servers for Oracle.

What if you could focus on your business needs instead of managing, securing and owning routine maintenance of your on-premises Oracle infrastructure? For starters, you could unburden your IT team and divert your time and attention to new feature development for your customers. There’s also a reduction in investments associated with data center staffing, power, heating/cooling, racking/stacking servers, networking, break-fixes and various data center operations.

If you choose an experienced bare metal hosting provider, your runtime environment and high-availability needs will be met. If you choose an enterprise-first hosting provider, you’ll get the highest levels of firewall isolation, crypto service encryption and data confidentiality. And if you choose IBM Bare Metal Servers for Oracle – you’ll get ALL the above and more.

30+ year collaboration between IBM and Oracle

Today, we are pleased to announce the availability of IBM Bare Metal Servers for Oracle, which is yet another endorsement of the 30+ year collaboration between IBM and Oracle. You can now upgrade your Oracle operations and bring your own Oracle Database (non-RAC) licenses to IBM Classic Infrastructure for true, raw, bare metal performance. When you bring your Oracle workloads to IBM, your resources are hosted and managed by IBM on IBM’s private, global network, which features the latest generation of Intel® Xeon® Processors for advanced core and memory demands. All servers are manufactured by top-tier hardware vendors and meet stringent Oracle certification requirements.

IBM is an industry leader in dedicated, bare metal servers

In comparison to other infrastructure hosting providers, IBM leads the pack in bare metal server expertise with over 15 years of hardware, networking and security leadership for our customers around the globe. No other provider offers the breadth and depth of customizable configuration options, with over 11 million configs available in enterprise-grade data centers around the globe. Choosing an industry leader for your specialized Oracle workloads just makes sense. With IBM, you will get the following:

  • Oracle-certified hardware (from the Oracle Linux & Virtualization Hardware Certification List)
  • 99.99% server uptime
  • 100% true bare metal — no hypervisor and no noisy neighbors
  • Bare metal servers from top-tier hardware vendors
  • 50+ global data centers
  • Multiple billing options to suit your budget
  • Always the latest Intel® Xeon® Processors
  • No vendor lock-in
  • Enterprise security and data protection – guaranteed

All tools, features and options work the same as your on-premises deployments

You won’t have to acquire new on-premises licenses or assemble new administrator teams, system integrators or runbooks. Hosting your Oracle workloads on IBM Bare Metal Servers allows you to run your non-RAC Oracle database operations the exact same way you did on-premises, without all of your data center upkeep and maintenance costs.

How does it work?

All OEM servers and hardware are certified to run Oracle Linux and Virtualization, as per the Oracle Hardware Certification List. IBM runs all end-to-end IaaS management, while you control your OS, DB, updates and licensing:

  1. Choose your “No OS” configuration, data center location, preferred billing, NVMe storage and more — all customizable inside the IBM catalog.
  2. After VPN connection, you’ll connect to the IPMI of your new server, mount your ISO image, install your OS and software and bring your licenses onboard.
  3. Your IBM sales and technical advisor will be there to walk you through the steps and/or address any questions, also provided in our IBM documentation.

Choosing IBM Bare Metal Servers for Oracle is a simple, lift-and-shift migration based on your business needs for international reach and high‑performance hosting.
