Customize Your Account Catalog to Deploy Products in Specific Locations

Our IBM Cloud team is excited to announce an enhancement to the IBM Cloud catalog that gives you the option to restrict the locations to which your account users can deploy products.

With the expanding list of products in the catalog, we understand that is important to have guardrails for your team to work within for the operation and standards of your business. With that in mind, you can now set restrictions for user provisioning at the product level, and you can also set restrictions for available data centers, metros, zones or regions. 

Getting started

From your IBM Cloud account, you can update the location setting at two levels:

  • Account level: The account level setting determines what your account users can view on the IBM Cloud catalog and creates a subset of restrictions at the private catalog level. For example, if you set a location filter for everyone on your account to only deploy into the Osaka 21 region, your account users that create a private catalog will have the Osaka 21 filter by default, along with the other filters they want to add to the private catalog. They can't remove the account-level Osaka 21 region filter. To apply filters at the account level, from the IBM Cloud console, go to Manage > Catalog > Settings, and select Location:

  • Private-catalog level: All private catalogs that are in an account inherit filters that are set by the account owner or administrator at the account level. In addition, if the account is a parent account in an IBM Cloud enterprise, the filters apply to all child account groups and accounts. To apply filters at the private-catalog level, from the IBM Cloud console, go to Manage > Catalog > Private Catalog, and select your private catalog. From there, select Manage Filters and then select Location:

When using the location filter, you will be able to restrict the deployment of products to either the data center, metro, zone or region. If a product in the IBM Cloud Catalog does not support the deployment in that specific region, users on your account will not be able to deploy that product.
