Installing IBM Tivoli Monitoring on Linux and UNIX systems

Install IBM® Tivoli® Monitoring by using the command-line interface.

Before you begin

Procedure

To install IBM Tivoli Monitoring, complete the following steps:

  1. Go to the directory into which you extracted the installation images.
  2. Run the following command:
    ./install.sh
  3. Select the IBM Tivoli Monitoring home directory:
    • To accept the default, /opt/IBM/ITM, press Enter. If the directory does not exist, you are prompted to create it. To create the directory, press Enter.
    • If you want to use a different installation directory, type the full path to that directory and press Enter.
  4. From the menu, select Install products to the local host by typing 1. Press Enter. The license agreement is displayed.
  5. Review the license agreement:
    1. To read the license page by page, press Enter.
    2. To accept the terms of the license, type 1 and press Enter.
  6. Set an encryption key:
    • To accept the default encryption key, IBMTivoliMonitoringEncryptionKey, press Enter.
    • To create an encryption key, type a 32 character encryption key and press Enter.
  7. Select IBM Tivoli Monitoring components for this operating system by typing 1. Press Enter. To confirm the selection, press Enter.
  8. A list of the components to install is displayed:
    1. Install Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server and Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server by typing 2,3 Press Enter.
    2. To confirm the selection, press Enter.
  9. For first-time installations only: Enter a name for your monitoring server:
    • To accept the default, TEMS, press Enter.
    • Type a name of your choice. For example: HUB_hostname. Do not use the fully qualified host name. Press Enter.
      Note: When you are installing the monitoring server, the application support available on the installation media for the monitoring server is installed automatically.
  10. After all of the components are installed, you are asked whether you want to install additional products or product support packages. To accept the default, No, press Enter.
  11. You are asked whether you want to seed product support on Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server. To accept the default, Yes, press Enter. You are then asked whether to add or update the situation distribution definition to include the default managed system groups. Select ALL by typing 1, press Enter.
  12. By default, most of the directories and files are created with world write permissions. To secure the IBM Tivoli Monitoring installation, type 1 and press Enter. Specify the name of the valid operating system group, for example, monitoring, to own the IBM Tivoli Monitoring files and directories and press Enter.

Results

Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server and Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server are installed.
