Installing the IBM Integration feature: Windows, Linux, and UNIX

Learn about how to use IBM® Installation Manager to install IBM Integration Administration for WebSphere® Application Server.

If you have previously installed the IBM Integration feature and you want to update it, see Applying service to IBM Integration Administration for WebSphere Application Server.

For more information about the versions of WebSphere Application Server supported by this feature, see the Prerequisites under the detailed system requirements for each supported platform, see IBM Integration Bus Requirements.

Ensure that IBM Installation Manager is installed and configured. If you are working with WebSphere Application Server Version 7.0, you must complete the following steps before you install the IBM Integration feature:
  1. Install IBM Installation Manager
  2. Configure links to product and service repositories in IBM Installation Manager
  3. Import the WebSphere Application Server installation into IBM Installation Manager
See the documentation on IBM Installation Manager, and on installing features, in the WebSphere Application Server Version 7.0 product documentation.
Install the IBM Integration administration package onto your WebSphere Application Server system by pointing IBM Installation Manager at the WebSphere Application Server repository file that is included in your IBM Integration installation.
Two repository files are included:
  • wmb.admin.repository.zip. This is the base version of the package.
  • wmb.admin.repository_updates.zip. This file contains updates to the package.
Note: Add one or both packages to the IBM Installation Manager repositories list, as described below. You must add the base repository at a minimum. If you want to install the latest updates, but you do not want IBM Installation Manager to retrieve them automatically from an external IBM location, then clear the Search service repositories during installation and updates check box and use the update package supplied with your installation.

To install the administration package, complete the following steps:

  1. Stop the WebSphere Application Server server.

Navigate to the install_root/bin or install_root\bin directory, where install_root is the root installation directory for WebSphere Application Server. On a command line, enter the following command:

    • On Windows:
      stopServer server1 -profileName profileName
    • On Linux and UNIX:
      stopServer.sh server1 -profileName profileName

server1 is the name of the application server.

profileName identifies the profile of the server process in a multi-profile installation. This parameter is not required for a single-profile installation.

  2. Open IBM Installation Manager.

For example, on Windows, click Start > All Programs > IBM Installation Manager > IBM Installation Manager.

  3. Add one or both IBM Integration repository locations to the IBM Installation Manager list of repositories.
    1. On the IBM Installation Manager main panel, click File > Preferences.
    2. Click Repositories and then Add repository.
    3. Click Browse and then navigate to the location of the IBM Integration repositories. You can copy the repositories onto your local machine or access them through a shared drive. The files are installed as part of your IBM Integration Bus installation at the following location:
      • On Windows: install_dir\tools\wmb.admin.repository.zip
      • On Linux, UNIX, and z/OS®: install_dir/tools/wmb.admin.repository.zip

install_dir is the location of your IBM Integration Bus installation.

A file called wmb.admin.zos.tar is also installed at the same location as wmb.admin.repository.zip. To administer broker resources from WebSphere Application Server on z/OS, you must copy this file onto the z/OS, system. See Installing the IBM Integration feature: z/OS.

    4. Select the repository file and click Open.
    5. Select the check box beside the IBM Integration repository file and clear all other repository file selections. If you do not want Installation Manager to retrieve updates automatically from an external IBM website then ensure that the Search service repositories during installation and updates check box is deselected.
    6. Click OK.
  4. Install the IBM Integration installation package
    1. On the main IBM Installation Manager panel, click Install. The Install Packages panel is opened.
    2. On the Install panel, select packages to install. Select the installation package that matches your version of WebSphere Application Server, and click Next.
    3. On the Licenses panel, review and accept the product license. Click I accept the terms in the license agreement. Click Next.
    4. If you see a message about running processes that might interfere with the current operation, you must stop the processes before the installation can continue.
    5. On the Location panel, click Use the existing package group, and select IBM WebSphere Application Server versionName from the list of Package Group Names, where versionName is the version of your WebSphere Application Server installation. If you select any other package group, an error message is displayed to say that the product cannot coexist with the selected package group.

      Click Next.

    6. On the Features panel, select the features to install. There is only one feature for this installation package. Select the IBM Integration Bus Administration feature and click Next.
    7. On the Summary panel, review the installation summary and click Install to start the installation.
    8. When the installation is complete, review the installation log, and click Finish. You are prompted to use the manageprofiles command to augment your WebSphere Application Server profile; see Configuring IBM Integration Administration for WebSphere Application Server.
Now that you have installed the IBM Integration Bus package, configure the administration run time by using the WebSphere Application Server manageprofiles command. See Configuring IBM Integration Administration for WebSphere Application Server.
