Configuring Cube Designer connection

Cube Designer is a separately installable application used to model reports. If you installed it in a location different from the default one, you need to configure it to run with the Cognos-based Tivoli® Common Reporting engine and user interface. This step is especially important if you installed Cube Designer on a separate computer.

Before you begin

Make sure that you extracted and installed the Cube Designer component available from the installation media on the computer where you want to model reports. Before you install Cube Designer, ensure that the JAVA_HOME environment variable is not set. Cube Designer is delivered together with its own version of Java™, so if you have JAVA_HOME set to Java version already installed on your computer, Cube Designer configuration might fail to start.

If you installed Cube Designer on a system other than the system where Tivoli Common Reporting engine is installed, the data source must exist on this Cube Designer system and on the Tivoli Common Reporting engine system.

Procedure

  1. Open the Cube Designer configuration program by running Cube_Designer_install_dir\bin\cogconfigw.exe
Tip: The default Cube Designer installation directory is c:\%Program Files%\cognos\bin\cogconfigw.exe
  2. Select Explorer > Environment. The Properties panel opens.
  3. In the Gateway Settings section, modify value in the Gateway URI field. Change the value for the Cognos® Gateway URI from https://localhost:16311/tarf/servlet/dispatch, which is the default value, to http://JazzSMServer_Hostname:16310/tarf/servlet/dispatch.

JazzSMServer_Hostname refers to the fully qualified host name of the Jazz™ for Service Management application server on which Tivoli Common Reporting is installed.

  4. In the Other URI Settings section, modify value for the Dispatcher URI for external applications field. Change the value for the Dispatcher URI from https://localhost:16311/tarf/servlet/dispatch, which is the default value, to http://JazzSMServer_Hostname:16310/tarf/servlet/dispatch.

JazzSMServer_Hostname refers to the fully qualified host name of the Jazz for Service Management application server on which Tivoli Common Reporting is installed.

Note: The URIs in Step 3 and Step 4 must match the URIs configured for Tivoli Common Reporting in IBM® Cognos Configuration. Open IBM Cognos Configuration by running c10_location/bin64/tcr_cogconfig.sh script (non-Windows systems) or c10_location\bin64\tcr_cogconfig.bat (Windows systems) on the Jazz for Service Management application server.
  5. Save the new configuration.

What to do next

You can now start modeling your reports with the use of Cube Designer. You will need to log in twice because Cube Designer does not support single sign-on.
