ODBC 3.0 MetaBroker

You can use ODBC 3.0 MetaBroker® to import metadata from databases into the metadata repository of InfoSphere® Information Server.

With the ODBC 3.0 MetaBroker, you can import metadata from databases that support the ODBC 3.0 protocol. When you import, you can prefilter the metadata to select only some of the objects in the database.

You start the import process in InfoSphere Metadata Asset Manager or in IBM® InfoSphere DataStage® and QualityStage® Designer.

If you import by using the Designer client, the imported metadata is limited to tables and columns. The tables become shared tables in the metadata repository that are linked to table definitions in the Designer client.

If you import by using InfoSphere Metadata Asset Manager, additional metadata objects are stored in the metadata repository. However, you must register interest in the imported tables to use them in the Designer client.

The ODBC 3.0 MetaBroker does not support imports from Microsoft Access.

Note: For better performance on large imports, use the ODBC Connector instead of the ODBC 3.0 MetaBroker. You can import by using the ODBC Connector in InfoSphere Metadata Asset Manager.
