A hybrid MDM implementation involves the management of
master data where a coexistence implementation style combines physical
MDM and virtual MDM technology.
Historically, InfoSphere® MDM
provided two distinct technologies for the management of master data,
each addressing different implementation styles:
In the registry
style, the systems of record for master data are
the source systems. That is, changes to master data continue to be
made through existing source systems. InfoSphere MDM (virtual MDM) gets loaded
and stores enough information to match and provide linkages between
similar and matching records. It then provides a trusted view of this
information to the user on demand. A single view of the party is not
persisted and modifications to master data continue to be made on
the source systems.
In the centralized style, master data from the
source systems is
loaded into a single repository. All information relevant to providing
a single view of the party is now stored in that repository. After
the matching and collapsing of records across the source systems,
only the single view of the party remains in the repository. MDM becomes
the system of record for centrally managing master data from that
point forward.
With the addition
of hybrid MDM capabilities, you can implement
your MDM solution to leverage the unique strengths of each of these
styles. The capabilities allow for the seamless movement and management
of a master data entity between its virtual MDM and physical MDM representations.
