Before installing WSRR, you must ensure that all prerequisites
have been met.
The prerequisites are:
- Plan your installation. For more information about planning your
installation and about the databases required by Websphere Service
Registry and Repository, see Planning your installation.
- Ensure that you have sufficient disk space for your installation.
See Disk space requirements for more information
- Ensure that your system meets all hardware and software requirements.
See Supported hardware and software for
more information.
- When you start the installation process by using the launchpad
application and when you are installing the product together with
a new installation of WebSphere Application
Server Network Deployment, the launchpad installs IBM® Installation Manager (if it is not already
installed), WebSphere Application
Server Network Deployment, and WebSphere Service
Registry and Repository. See Installing by using the Launchpad for more information. (On
UNIX systems, the launchpad is not available but you can use the Installation
Manager GUI; see Installing by using the IBM Installation Manager GUI.)
- Prepare your operating system for installation. See Preparing Linux systems for installation,
and Preparing the operating system for product installation (in
the WebSphere Application
Server Network Deployment documentation) for links to platform-specific
information.
- Stop all server, deployment manager, and node agent processes
on the WebSphere Application
Server products for which you intend to add features, or that you
plan to extend. For instructions on how to perform these tasks, see Stopping servers and nodes.
- Before installing the software for WSRR, assess your current environment
and your business requirements to ensure that the system you implement
meets your needs. Middleware, such as WSRR, requires that you evaluate
many aspects of your enterprise information system (EIS), such as
capacity and security.
- On Windows and Linux (Intel), the WSRR 8.5 eImage
comes in two parts (labelled part 1 and part 2). You must extract
the two parts into the same directory before running the installer.
Note: To install WSRR on a federated server or cluster, the WSRR
installer must be run on the deployment manager node.
If the prerequisites are satisfied, you are ready to install the
product.
Note that there is a check built into the evaluation installation for
the process file descriptor limit settings on UNIX and
Linux systems. If the value is too low, you are warned to increase
the value to at least 8799. See Setting process file descriptor limit. After adjusting the value,
log out and log back in again, then restart the launchpad.
