      Explanation 
      The environment variable LDAP_MAXCARD causes the directory server to periodically set the
      cardinality of selected tables to the maximum value. This causes better performance for some types of searches.
      The environment variable IBMSLAPD_USE_SELECTIVITY can also be set to YES to improve performance for some
      searches. Both variables cannot be set to YES.
       

      User response 
      Unset either LDAP_MAXCARD or IBMSLAPD_USE_SELECTIVITY in the environment before starting the server.
