In some cases, it is possible to update the WebSphere Application
Server, version 7.0 Test Environment extensions with updates created
for the stand-alone WebSphere Application Server, version 7.0. It
is also possible to apply service (such as fix packs or interim fixes)
created for the stand-alone WebSphere Application Server Feature Packs
to the WebSphere Application Server, version 7.0 Test Environment
extensions, if the Feature Packs are installed by IBM Installation
Manager.
Updates are periodically released for the WebSphere Application
Server, version 7.0 Test Environment extensions. (An
extension must
be installed by IBM Installation Manager along with the prerequisite
software package, such as
IBM® Rational® Application Developer
for WebSphere® Software.)
The updates for the test environment extension contain maintenance
for both tWebSphere Application Server, version 7.0 and the WebSphere
Application Server Feature Packs. However, the updates for the WebSphere
Application Server, version 7.0 test environment extension can differ
in the following ways:
- There might be a time difference between when the updates are
available from WebSphere, and when they become available for the test
environment extension.
- Smaller, more frequent maintenance levels - interim fixes, for
example - available for stand-alone WebSphere Application Server,
version 7.0 or the Feature Packs are generally not available for the
WebSphere Application Server, version 7.0 Test Environments extensions.
Although it is possible to manually apply updates created for the
WebSphere Application Server, version 7.0 Test Environment, it is
not generally necessary. Examples of cases where you might choose
to manually update the version 7.0 test environment extension are:
- To install an urgently required update that is available for the
stand-alone WebSphere Application Server but is not yet available
for the test environment extension.
- To install an interim fix available for the stand-alone WebSphere
Application Server, version 7.0 or one of the WebSphere Application
Server Feature Packs.
- You want your test environment extension to have the exact same
maintenance level as your stand-alone WebSphere Application Server,
version 7.0.
Note: If you install updates created for stand-alone versions of WebSphere
Application Server or for the WebSphere Application Server Feature
Packs into the test environment extension, you must uninstall those
updates before you can use IBM Installation Manager to update, uninstall,
or roll back the test environment extension.
