Manually applying updates for stand-alone WebSphere Application Server, version 7.0 Feature Packs to a WebSphere Application Server, version 7.0 test environment extension

In some cases, you might choose to install updates to the stand-alone WebSphere Application Server, version 7.0 Feature Pack to your WebSphere Application Server, version 7.0 Test Environment extension.

About this task

Some Feature Packs for WebSphere Application Server, version 7.0 are now installed with the IBM Installation Manager. Starting with IBM Installation Manager 1.3.4.1, you can install updates created for a stand-alone Feature Pack for WebSphere Application Server, version 7.0 on a test environment extension. (Previously, when updates were released for the Feature Packs, there was no way to apply these updates in the IBM Installation Manager to the WebSphere Application Server, version 7.0 Test Environment extension.

Note: If you install updates created for stand-alone WebSphere Application Server, version 7.0 or for the WebSphere Application Server, version 7.0 Feature Packs into the test environment extension, you must uninstall those updates before you can use IBM Installation Manager to update, uninstall, or roll back the test environment extension.

Procedure

  1. Start IBM Installation Manager using the steps in the following technote: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21422208
  2. In Installation Manager, click Preferences > Repositories > Add Repository and enter the location of the update repository for the WebSphere Application Server Feature Pack, and then click OK.
  3. Click OK to close the Preferences page.
  4. On the main page of Installation Manager, you now see the Import action. Click Import.
  5. On the Import Existing WebSphere Installation page, click Browse and change to the directory where WebSphere Application Server, version 7.0 Test Environment is installed, and then click Next. For example, change to C:\Program Files\IBM\SDP\runtimes\base_v7.
  6. The packages available for import are displayed. Click Import.
  7. When the import action completes, click Finish.
  8. At the IBM Installation Manager main page, click Update. In the Update Packages panel, select the package that was imported in the earlier step (IBM WebSphere Application Server - Base) and then click Next.
  9. In the Update Packages page, select the package that was imported in the earlier step (IBM WebSphere Application Server - Base) and then click Next.
  10. Select the packages to be updated. A list of manual updates to being installed displays. Click Next.
  11. On the Licenses page, read the license agreements for the selected packages. If you agree to the terms of all the license agreements, select I accept the terms of the license agreements and then click Next.
  12. The Update Packages page shows the Feature Pack update selected for installation. Click Next.
  13. On the Update Packages summary page, click Update.
  14. After the update complete, click Finish.
