Installing CICS Explorer: IBM Installation Manager

You can use IBM® Installation Manager to install CICS Explorer® on a workstation. When you install CICS Explorer in this way, you must also use Installation Manager to install updates or additional features.

About this task

The CICS Explorer product combines the following products, which are available as Installation Manager packages:
  • IBM Explorer for z/OS® (z/OS Explorer) provides the host connection and z/OS functions.
  • CICS Explorer provides the CICS® functions.
You can use Installation Manager to install CICS Explorer in the following ways:
  • Install a stand-alone version of CICS Explorer (Version 5.1.1 and later)

    You must install z/OS Explorer and CICS Explorer.

  • Install CICS Explorer into an existing Installation Manager-based Eclipse instance, for example Rational® Application Developer or IMS™.
    If you have an existing Installation Manager-based Eclipse instance, you can create a new package group to install z/OS Explorer and CICS Explorer, or you can use an existing compatible package group, for example Rational Application Developer or IMS.
    Note: If your Eclipse instance is not an Installation Manager-based Eclipse instance, you must use the Eclipse p2 update method. See Installing CICS Explorer: Eclipse p2 update site.

Procedure

  1. Optional: If Installation Manager is not installed, use the following steps to install it:
    1. On the Download Eclipse Tools web page, navigate to the Using IBM Installation Manager section and Option 2 - I am starting from scratch.
    2. Click the option for your operating system and follow the prompts to download a compressed file to your system.
    3. Extract the contents of the compressed file to a suitable directory.
    4. To run the IM installer and complete a user installation or an administrator installation, double-click the appropriate launch file. For example, to complete a user installation on Windows, double-click the imLauncherWindowsUser.bat file.

  2. Start Installation Manager and click File > Preferences > Repositories.
  3. Click Add Repository and add the URL for the composite update site. This URL is available on the Download Eclipse Tools web page.
  4. Click the Install option in the Installation Manager wizard, and follow the prompts to install z/OS Explorer and CICS Explorer.
  5. Optional: To install the CICS SDK for web and JSP feature, after you select the z/OS Explorer and CICS Explorer packages and click Next, select the option to include this feature.
