Service types in the web Process Designer

Learn about the types of IBM® BPM services that can be modeled in the web Process Designer.

The following types of services can be modeled in web Process Designer:

Table 1. Types of services that can be modeled in web Process Designer
Service type Description See...
Service flow Use service flows to model services for business processes in the web Process Designer. You can use service flows to call REST services, Java applications or heritage services that were created in the desktop Process Designer. You can also bring heritage services into the web Process Designer by converting them into service flows, which you can model in web Process Designer and use in business processes. Creating a service flow
External service Use external services to call services or applications that are external to IBM® Business Process Manager. External services are generated when you do one of the following:
  • Discover and invoke a REST service
  • Discover and invoke a Java application
  • Create an external implementation service to invoke an external application.
You can call a Java or REST external from a service flow. You can call external implementation external services from a process.
