Installing Content Analytics Studio

You can install IBM® Watson Explorer Content Analytics Studio (Content Analytics Studio) to create and deploy custom text analytics for Watson Explorer Content Analytics applications. Run the installation program to install Content Analytics Studio by using a graphical, silent, or console method.

Before you begin

If you plan to install the current version of Content Analytics Studio in a directory in which a previous version of the product is installed, you must first remove the previous version.

If you plan to install Content Analytics Studio with Studio Demonstrator, and if there is an existing studioworkspace folder in the Users directory, rename the folder before you install Content Analytics Studio. If the studioworkspace folder is in the Users directory, the installer program automatically renames it to studioworkspace_bak30.

Important: Do not install more than one instance of the current version of Content Analytics Studio on the same computer. Installing multiple instances of the same version can cause data to be overwritten.

Procedure

To install Content Analytics Studio:

  1. From the product DVD or electronic distribution image, run the ContentAnalyticsStudio-install.exe file to start the graphical installation program.

Alternatively, you can use one of the following methods to run the installation program:

    Option Description
Console installation From a command window, enter the following command to run the installation program in text mode from a console. The screens are rendered in text and prompt you for the same information as the graphical installation mode.

    ContentAnalyticsStudio-install.exe -i console

Silent installation Before you can install the product silently, you must specify the installation options in a response file. To create a response file, install Content Analytics Studio on a computer by using the record option. All settings that you specify in the installation program are recorded into the specified response file. You can then use the response file to install Content Analytics Studio on other computers.

To run the installation program in record mode, enter the following command from a command window. Ensure that you specify the full path name of the response file name, such as C:/temp/studio.properties.

    ContentAnalyticsStudio-install.exe -r response_file_path

To run the installation program in silent mode, enter the following command. Ensure that you specify the full path to the response file.

    ContentAnalyticsStudio-install.exe -i silent -f response_file_path

  2. In the installation program, accept the default installation path or specify a different location.
  3. After the installation is complete, start Content Analytics Studio by clicking Start > Programs > IBM Watson Explorer Content Analytics Studio > IBM Watson Explorer Content Analytics Studio, Version 10.0. When you start the application for the first time, select a workspace. The workspace is the location in which Content Analytics Studio stores the resources that you create.
Tip: If you plan to access the same workspace while you are logged in to Windows with different user IDs, do not use the default workspace. Because the default workspace is stored in the Users directory, the default workspace for one user is not accessible to other users.
    Default location
If you accept the default workspace location, Content Analytics Studio opens the Studio Demonstrator workspace that is installed by default with the software. The Studio Demonstrator workspace contains the following sample resources.
    • The IBM project contains a set of sample annotators and resources that provide suggestions for how to develop your own linguistic models.
    • The Addendum project contains an English phrase annotator and example character rules dictionaries. The character rules dictionaries are used to match strings by using regular expressions.
For more information about the sample resources, see the readme file in the README directory of each project.
    Custom location
If you have an existing workspace or you want to create an empty workspace at a different location, you can specify a different location for the workspace. If you specify an existing workspace that was created with an earlier version of the product, back up and upgrade the workspace before you begin using it with the current version of the product.
