Using the migrlpar command for partition mobility operations

You can run the migrlpar command from the Hardware Management Console (HMC) command line to perform partition mobility operations.

About this task

  • To change the virtual switch name of the destination server, you can use the vswitch_mappings attribute of the migrlpar command.
  • When the mobile partition is configured with the Physical Page Table (PPT) ratio, you can use the migrlpar command to migrate the mobile partition. When the hypervisor on the destination server does not support PPT ratio, a warning message is displayed. However, the partition mobility operation succeeds. For more information about migration and PPT ratio, see Migration and PPT ratio.
  • To view detailed information about partition mobility operations that fail, you can use the --steps attribute of the migrlpar command. The attribute can have the following values:
    • A value of 0 indicates that no information about the operation is available.
    • A value of 1 indicates that information about every step of the migration operation that includes information about successful and failed steps is available.
    • A value of 2 indicates that only information about the steps of the migration operation that failed is available.
