Affinity score and partition mobility
The affinity score of a mobile partition can be compared with the affinity score of the mobile partition after the partition mobility operation by using the Hardware Management Console (HMC).
About this task
For ideal performance, all the processors and memory that is used by the logical partitions are in the same processor chip or the same server drawer. The hypervisor has a function that scores the location of the processors and memory that is assigned to the partition to indicate how close to the ideal choice of processors and memory the partition is currently allocated. The resource choices are in the range of 0 - 100 where 0 is the lowest and 100 is ideal.
By default, the affinity score is not checked during a partition mobility operation. The hypervisor performs the affinity
check during the partition mobility operation when you use
the affinity attribute of the migrlpar command. To enforce the
affinity check, run the following command:
migrlpar -o m source cec] -t [target cec] -p [lpar to migrate] --affinity
The
affinity score can be checked only during the partition mobility operation. The partition mobility operation fails when the affinity score at the
destination server is less than the affinity score at the source server. The source and destination
servers must be POWER9™ processor-based servers.
