Resuming the suspended mobile partition with HMC

You can resume a suspendedAIX®, IBM® i, or Linux logical partition on the server by using the Hardware Management Console (HMC) Version 7.7.2.0, or later. With the HMC Version 7.7.3, or later, you can suspend an IBM i logical partition and resume the operation of the logical partition on the same system. The Suspend/Resume feature for logical partitions is supported on POWER8® processor-based servers when the firmware is at level FW840, or later.

To resume a suspended logical partition on the server by using the HMC, complete the following tasks:
  1. In the navigation pane, open Systems Management.
  2. Select Servers.
  3. In the work pane, select the suspended mobile partition.
  4. Select Operations > Suspend Operations > Resume.

The HMC Classic interface is not supported in Hardware Management Console (HMC) Version 8.7.0, or later. The functions that were previously available in the HMC Classic interface are now available in the HMC Enhanced+ interface.

When the HMC is at version 8.7.0, or later, complete the following steps to resume a suspended logical partition:
    1. In the navigation pane, click the Resources icon The icon represents the Resources function of the HMC.
    2. Click All Partitions. Alternatively, click All Systems. In the work pane, click the server name that has the logical partition. Click View System Partitions. The All Partitions page is displayed.
    3. In the work pane, select the logical partition and click Actions > Suspend Operations > Resume.
Note: If the Virtual Station Interface (VSI) configuration on the destination server fails, the resume operation also fails. You must then shut down and restart the partition to recover from the failed resume operation.
