Recovering a suspended logical partition

When the suspend or resume operation has failed, the logical partition might be in an invalid state. You can then recover a suspended logical partition by using the Hardware Management Console (HMC).

The Suspend/Resume feature for logical partitions is supported on POWER8® processor-based servers when the firmware is at level FW840, or later.

To recover a suspended logical partition by using the HMC, follow these steps:

  1. In the navigation pane, open General and click Partition Properties.
  2. Select the logical partition in the work pane.
  3. From the Tasks menu, click Operations > Suspend Operations > Recover.

The HMC Classic interface is not supported in Hardware Management Console (HMC) Version 8.7.0, or later. The functions that were previously available in the HMC Classic interface are now available in the HMC Enhanced+ interface.

When the HMC is at version 8.7.0, or later, complete the following steps to view the logical partitions:
    1. In the navigation pane, click the Resources icon The icon represents the Resources function of the HMC.
    2. Click All Partitions. Alternatively, click All Systems. In the work pane, click the server name that has the logical partition. Click View System Partitions. The All Partitions page is displayed.
    3. Select the logical partition and click Actions > Suspend Operations > Recover.
  4. Click OK.
The recovery process performs the cleanup operation and moves the logical partition into a valid state.
