Assigning a reserved storage device to a logical partition

You must assign a reserved storage device to a remote restart capable partition before you activate the logical partition.

You must be a super administrator to perform this task.

The HMC Classic interface is not supported in Hardware Management Console (HMC) Version 8.7.0, or later. The functions that were previously available in the HMC Classic interface are now available in the HMC Enhanced+ interface.

For more information about enabling the suspension capability of a logical partition when the HMC is at version 8.7.0, or later, see Managing reserved storage device pools.

To assign the reserved storage device, complete the following steps from the HMC:
  1. In the navigation pane, expand Systems Management and click Servers.
  2. In the work pane, select the server.
  3. From the Tasks menu, click Configuration > Virtual Resources > Reserved Storage Device Pool Management, or Configuration > Virtual Resources > Shared Memory Pool Management, as applicable. The Reserved Storage Device Pool Management window or the Shared Memory Pool Management window is displayed.
    • If the Reserved Storage Device Pool Management window is displayed, complete the following steps:
      1. Click Edit Pool.
      2. Click Select Devices. The Reserved Storage Device Selection window is displayed.
    • If the Shared Memory Pool Management window is displayed, complete the following steps:
      1. Click the Paging Space Devices tab.
      2. Click Add/Remove Paging Space Devices.
      3. Click Select Devices. The Paging Space Device Selection window is displayed.
