About the system requirements
InfoSphere Information Server product modules are installed in logical tiers: client tier, engine tier, services tier, and metadata repository tier. A tier is a logical group of components within InfoSphere Information Server and the computers on which those components are installed. For more information about tiers, see Understanding tiers and components.
Before you install the IBM InfoSphere Information Server suite product modules and components, you must ensure that each computer meets the system requirements for the logical tiers that you plan to install on that computer. The easiest way to verify that your computer meets the system requirements is to use one of the following tools:
- Start the Version 8.5 installation program to run the System Requirements Check.
- Use the ISA Lite for InfoSphere Information Server tool to run the System Requirements reports. To access this report, you must download, install, and configure the ISA Lite tool. For more information, see http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24022700.
This document describes the system requirements in detail.
Operating system requirements
The client tier is supported on the following Windows operating systems running on 32-bit and 64-bit AMD or Intel processors. Web clients are also supported on other operating systems.

Memory requirements
The minimum amount of memory for the client tier is 2 GB.
Disk space requirements
The following table specifies the minimum disk space requirements for the client tier. The disk space requirements vary based on your installation. You can run the installation program to determine the required disk space for your selected products.
Client | Minimum disk space | Notes |
---|---|---|
Installation | 2 GB | The system temporary directory requires 1 GB of available free space during installation. |
All products | 2.0 GB | 10 MB is required in the Windows\system32\ directory. |
Documentation | 450 MB | The PDF library. |
Networking requirements
The client tier, engine tier, services tier, and metadata repository tier must be able to communicate with each other over the network on all ports that are used by the software. The host computer must be able to resolve its host name to an IP address.
Web browser requirements
The following web browsers are supported.
- Mozilla Firefox 3.0 Δ
- Mozilla Firefox 3.5 Δ
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 Δ
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 7
Documentation requirements
To access help and other topics in the InfoSphere Information Server, Version 8.5, information center, you must have a supported web browser installed.
To access the PDF documentation, you must have Adobe Acrobat or a comparable PDF reader installed.
InfoSphere Information Server console requirements
Microsoft .NET Framework is required. The following table specifies the .NET Framework requirements.
Version of InfoSphere Information Server | Minimum required version of Microsoft .NET Framework | Notes | |
---|---|---|---|
InfoSphere Information Server, Version 8.5 |
Δ .NET Framework 1.1 |
The system requirements check of the InfoSphere Information Server Update Installer detects whether you have .NET 1.1 installed. If it is not installed, the installation program installs it for you. | |
InfoSphere Information Server, Version 8.5.0.1 (Fix Pack 1) |
Δ .NET Framework 4.0 Full Framework |
The system requirements check of the InfoSphere Information Server Update Installer detects whether you have the Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 Full Framework or Client Profile installed. If the Full Framework is not installed, the installation program fails the system requirements check, and directs you to download and install .NET Framework 4.0 Full Framework before attempting to install again. |
InfoSphere DataStage and QualityStage Designer client requirements
Microsoft .NET Framework is required. The following table specifies the .NET Framework requirements.
Version of InfoSphere Information Server | Minimum required version of Microsoft .NET Framework | Notes | |
---|---|---|---|
InfoSphere Information Server, Version 8.5 |
Δ .NET Framework 4.0 Client Profile |
If you do not have an installation of .NET Framework 4.0 on your computer, the InfoSphere Information Server installation program installs .NET Framework 4.0 Full Framework as long as the computer is running one of the following operating systems: Windows 7, Windows 2008, Windows Vista, Windows XP with SP3 or Windows 2003 and has Windows Imaging Component installed. If the computer is not running one of the specified operating systems, the installer will fail the systems requirements check and no installation will be performed. If you have either version (Full Framework or Client Profile) of .NET Framework 4.0 installed, the InfoSphere Information Server installation program does not install any portion of .NET Framework 4.0. |
|
