Locating ITM Workspace Application Support Files for z/OS Agents

Problem

This technote addresses the commonly asked question of where can workspace application support files be found for z/OS Agents.

Resolving The Problem

Before you can view data collected by monitoring agents, you must install application support for the agents on the Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server and on the hub Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server. When you install application support on the Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server, you are installing the files required for presenting workspaces and online help for each monitoring agent. When you install application support on the hub monitoring server, you are installing the files required for product-provided situations, situation distributions, and other product-specific data. Installing application support on the hub monitoring server is also known as "seeding" the hub.

The z/OS-based agents provide application support files, which are separate from the mainframe installation media. Distributed agents include their application support files in the distributed installation process.Where possible, IBM provides both .zip and .tar formats, as well as .iso format, so that a physical CD/DVD can be created.

The IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM) media is separate from the workspace application support files which are included with products that run in the ITM environment. ITM can be obtained by ordering either 5724-C04 IBM Tivoli Monitoring through Passport Advantage or the no charge 5698-A79 IBM Tivoli Management Services on z/OS through Shop zSeries. Your IBM rep can ask Techline to configure and submit the order as well. 5698-A79 includes the server, engine, and configuration utilities on z/OS.
Workspace application support files may have their own fixpacks which are separate and distinct from any ITM fixpacks. Find the fix pack for your products at:

The ITM Configuration Guide describes the application support installation process. The LCD7-5139-13 IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON Application Support Files for z/OS is the latest level available of the application support DVD for the OMEGAMON V5.4.0, V5.5.0 and V7.5.0 products to be installed with IBM Tivoli Monitoring V6.3.0 Fix Pack 6 or higher. This DVD contains application support files for the following products:

  • IBM OMEGAMON for z/OS, version 5.5.0
  • IBM OMEGAMON for CICS on z/OS, version 5.5.0
  • IBM OMEGAMON for Networks on z/OS, version 5.5.0
  • IBM OMEGAMON for IMS on z/OS, version 5.5.0
  • IBM OMEGAMON for Storage on z/OS, version 5.5.0
  • IBM Z OMEGAMON for JVM on z/OS, version 5.5.0
  • IBM OMEGAMON for Messaging on z/OS, v7.5.0
  • IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE for DB2® Performance Expert on z/OS, version 5.4.0
  • IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE for DB2® Performance Monitor on z/OS, version 5.4.0
  • IBM DB2 Query Monitor, version 3.3.0

NOTE

If you have enabled the self-describing agent (SDA) feature in your Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server (TEPS) and your Tivoli Enterprise Management Server (TEMS),  your TEPS is on Linux or UNIX, and you have installed Language Packs, then you will not see translation in Online Help from TEP for OMEGAMON products, because the SDA puts the online help files in the Eclipse Help platform instead of the TEPS platform, where they should go.

Workaround:
1. Move all files from …/$IEHSplat/kf/eclipse/plugins/com.ibm.kpp.doc to …/$TEPSplat/kf/eclipse/plugins/com.ibm.kpp.doc
where pp could be cp, dp, gw, ip, jj, m5, mq, n3, qi, or s3.  

where $IEHSplat is the Eclipse Help platform and $TEPSplat is the TEPS platform.
    
Take the following steps to determine Eclipse Help platform and TEPS platform:
cd &installHome/bin
./cinfo -t kf   The Eclipse Help platform is under PLAT in the output. For example li6263
./cinfo -t cq   Look for PC cq in the top of the output, and the TEPS platform is under PLAT.
For example, lx8266 
2. Reconfigure TEPS
cd &installHome/bin
./itmcmd config -A cq
