Problem
This technote identifies a possible solution for an issue where an IBM® Rational® RequisitePro® user cannot login to the project on one machine and receives an error, but the error is not seen on another machine: "Smalltalk/v A non-continuable protection violation has occurred"
Symptom
The full error message is

A non-continuable protection violation has occurred.Check Error-log file
Error log file has registry entries like

Message 1001:
a non-continuable protection violation has occurred. Check ERROR.LOG file.
Cause
This error message is possibly caused by the registry entries for this RequisitePro user being corrupted.
Resolving The Problem
To resolve this error perform the following steps:
- This procedure should be performed by a system administrator
- This procedure will reset the ReqPro project list. The user must re-add the projects after completing this.
Notes:
1. Close RequisitePro
2. Go to Start > Run, then enter regedit
3. Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Rational Software\RequisitePro
4. Delete the RequisitePro key
5. Exit the registry
6. Start RequisitePro which will re-create the RequisitePro key
