Setup considerations for Teradata
The following Teradata client components must be installed on the Optim Server as well as the Optim Windows client:
- Shared ICU Libraries
- Teradata GSS
- CLIv2 interface
- Teradata Pre-processor (PP2)
- Optim support for native Teradata loaders (optional) may require the following components, depending on your Optim configuration:
- MultiLoad
- FastLoad
- BTEQ
- Named Pipe Access Module
- PIOM (Data Connector)
- Optim support for Teradata Parallel Transport (optional) requires the following components:
- TPT Export Operator
- TPT API
- TPT Infrastructure
- TPT Operator Support Library (V12, part of TPT Infrastructure in V13)
- TPT ICU Libraries (V12, part of TPT Infrastructure in V13)
- When using Open Data Manager (ODM), archived data and online data from the Teradata system can be combined (UNION or JOIN) through the use of Infosphere Federation Server, which is also provided. Using a Teradata wrapper along with an ODBC wrapper, DB2 queries can be written with references to nicknamed objects from both wrappers. In addition, your applications can connect to ODM through ODBC or JDBC in order to access archived data directly.
- Optim for Teradata is not supported on the HP-Itanium platform.
- Optim for Teradata supports the following minimum version levels of the Teradata Server software:
- V2.6.2
- V12.0.2.38
- V12.0.3.1
- V13.0.0.18
- V13.0.1.1
- V13.10.0.1
- Executing Optim against any supported versions of Teradata on Windows requires a minimum Teradata client level of TTU version 8.2 or above on the Optim Server.
- Executing Optim against any supported versions of Teradata on AIX requires a minimum Teradata client level of TTU version 12 or above on the Optim Server.
- Executing Optim against any supported versions of Teradata on the Solaris, RHEL or HP-UX platforms requires a minimum Teradata client level of TTU version 13 or above on the Optim Server. In addition, the following patch levels are required for specific client components:
- TTU version 13 client, with CLIv2 patch 13.00.00.11 or above, available for download on the Teradata @ Your Service web site.
- TTU version 13.10 client, with CLIv2 patch 13.10.00.10 or above, available for download on the Teradata @ Your Service web site.
- TPT version 13.10 with papida00 patch 13.10.00.06 or above, available for download on the Teradata @ Your Service web site.
Setup considerations for UNIX
The following consideration applies when installing the Optim server on a UNIX platform:
- If you are upgrading the Optim server on a UNIX platform, you must first shut down the server, following the steps in the Installation and Configuration Guide.
- By default, the Optim setup program requires a connection that supports a graphical interface. In the absence of a graphical interface or for convenience, you may also install from the command line, running a file that provides a response to all prompts. Both methods are described in detail in the Installation and Configuration Guide as are troubleshooting tips for using a graphical interface.
Open Data Manager
An uncompress utility is a prerequisite to the installation of Open Data Manager on most platforms. Where required, the utility is in the /usr/bin directory in the following packages. |
| Package | Description |
AIX | bos.rte.archive | Base Operating System Runtime, Archive Commands |
HP-UX | OS-Core.CMDS-MIN and PHCO_26898.CMDS-MIN | Minimum HP-UX commands with Patch (11.11) |
Linux | ncompress | Fast compression and decompression utilities |
Solaris | SUNWesu | Extended System Utilities |
Windows | not required |
|
When Open Data Manager is installed on Windows, it generally requires Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 as a prerequisite. This software can be obtained at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=ab99342f-5d1a-413d-8319-81da479ab0d7. For older installations on Windows Server 2000, version 2.0 of Microsoft .NET Framework is required.
Database considerations

IBM Tivoli License Manager
If you use IBM Tivoli License Manager use the following manual process to activate it for data sources that do not reside on an Optim server or on a z/OS system:
- Locate the set of *.sys2 files residing at: Optim Root\ETC\
- Copy the *.sys2 files to:
\\server root\IBM\Optim|ITLM
on the server hosting the data source.

Optim v8.1 now includes IBM Mashup Center v3.0
IBM Mashup Center is an end-to-end enterprise mashup platform that enables the rapid creation, sharing, and discovery of reusable application building blocks (widgets, feeds, mashups) that can be easily assembled into new applications or leveraged within existing applications - delivering lower development costs, rapid ROI, quick delivery of applications, and greater productivity. Optim installation media includes Mashup Center 3.0. Use this link to upgrade to FixPack 3.0.0.1: http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/mashupswiki.nsf/dx/fixpacks |
Optim designer
Optim is packaged with the optional Optim designer, which can be used to build and discover models for Optim on distributed and z/OS platforms. You can also use Optim designer to run Optim processes on these platforms and to create interoperability services based on process requests that can be published to the Optim manager environment.
The Optim designer installation disc includes IBM Installation Manager and installation packages for designer, InfoSphere Data Architect, and the Optim shared libraries. Use the following link for Detailed System Requirements for Optim designer:
http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27019157
To begin the installation process, run the launchpad executable file. You must use IBM Installation Manager to install Optim designer, InfoSphere Data Architect, and the Optim shared libraries. If the required version of Installation Manager is not installed, the installation process will install this component first.
InfoSphere Data Architect 7.5.3 is a prerequisite for designer. You can use Installation Manager to install InfoSphere Data Architect before or at the same time as the designer. The shared libraries are also a requirement for the designer.
Optim manager
Optim manager is a web application that you can use to configure, run, monitor, and manage services and to configure components that are used to run these services. Use the following link for Detailed System Requirements for Optim Manager:
http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27019158
The Optim manager installation disc includes IBM Installation Manager and installation packages for manager, management server, proxy, Optim shared libraries, and IBM WebSphere® Application Server Community Edition.
To begin the installation process, run the launchpad executable file. You must use Installation Manager to install Optim Manager, management server, proxy, shared libraries, and IBM WebSphere Application Server Community Edition. If the required version of Installation Manager is not installed, the installation process will install this component first.
Optim manager and Optim management server each require a J2EE application server, and you can use the supplied IBM WebSphere Application Server Community Edition for this requirement.
The shared libraries are required for manager, management server, and proxy. To process interoperability services, the proxy computer must include an installation of your Optim Solution software.
For information about configuring and using the Optim manager environment, refer to the documentation location on the installation disc.
