    IBM Helps Emirate of Sharjah Enhance E-Literacy and Support Local Social Development
    Sharjah, UAE, 24 April 2012: An international team of 14 IBM (NYSE:IBM) employees chosen for the company's Corporate Services Corps (CSC) programme, has arrived in the United Arab Emirates to volunteer their expertise in support of e-literacy and social development in the Emirate of Sharjah. As part of the project, the team will work alongside the Sharjah e-government Directorate, Sharjah University and the Supreme Council for Family Affairs Centres.

    From Big Bang to Big Data: ASTRON and IBM Collaborate to Explore Origins of the Universe
    Dubai, UAE, April 2, 2012: ASTRON, the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy and IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced an initial 32.9 million EURO, five-year collaboration to research extremely fast, but low-power exascale computer systems targeted for the international Square Kilometre Array (SKA). The SKA is an international project to build the world’s largest and most sensitive radio telescope. Scientists estimate that the processing power required to operate the telescope will be equal to several millions of today’s fastest computers.

    IBM Inventors Named National Inventors Hall of Fame 2012 Inductees
    Dubai, United Arab Emirates—March 4, 2012—The National Inventors Hall of Fame, a U.S not-for-profit organization dedicated to recognizing and honoring invention and creativity, has announced it will induct two IBM (NYSE: IBM) scientists whose invention paved the way for the advancement of commercial disk storage technology used in computers, digital cameras and other devices. Dr. Lubomyr Romankiw and Dr. David Thompson (retired) are being honored for their invention of a technique that produced the first practical and manufacturable thin film magnetic head, which increased the density of data stored on magnetic disks and dramatically reduced the cost of data storage.
