The Update Installer for Java updates IBM-supplied releases and service refreshes of IBM Developer Kits and Runtime Environments with updates that are provided by IBM support.
IBM Update Installer
Before using the IBM Update Installer you should review the latest information on the CVE-2010-4476 critical security vulnerability alert.
Important: The IBM Update Installer is a temporary mechanism for addressing a critical security vulnerability. A subsequent update to your SDK may remove fixes applied by the IBM Update Installer. You should always use the guidance from your IBM Product support team where available.
The IBM Update Installer is supported for IBM Developer Kits and Runtime Environments for Java 1.4.2, Java 5.0 and Java 6 on these platforms:
For IBM Developer Kits and Runtime Environments on Solaris™ or HP-UX®:
Developer Kits and Runtime Environments detected and updated by the IBM Update Installer for Java:
SDKs and JREs not detected or updated by the IBM Update Installer for Java:
To download and install the Update Installer:

Before running the IBM Update Installer you should stop your running programs.
You may want to manually back up your SDK or JRE directory. Create a compressed file containing all the files in your SDK or JRE directory. Uncompressing these files will restore your SDK or JRE environment.
To install a patch run:
java -jar JavaUpdateInstaller.jar -install [patch JAR file] [JAVA_HOME of target JDK]
java -jar JavaUpdateInstaller.jar -install C:\PM31983_FIX_1.jar C:\1.4.2SR5\sdk
