Visual Designer
Meet Cale Vardy
I work as a Visual Designer on the IBM Watson project,
which is applying ground-breaking technology to healthcare and other areas. It’s my job
to ensure that our clients fall in love with the visual experience of our software, so
I design holistically — thinking not only about the pixel-perfect beauty of individual
elements using Photoshop® and Illustrator®, but also how they
work together as a system.
Visual Designers will use their expertise in typography, layout, and color
to elicit the desired emotional response and connections for a project’s given
personas. Attention to detail at the pixel precision level is a must.

User Experience Designer
Meet Davis Neable
I’m responsible for the User Experience Design of
the IBM Operational Decision Manager software. There is nothing more satisfying than
seeing my interaction designs evolve — sketching out early design concepts on
paper and creating wireframes around key user personas, producing mock-ups and watching
the development team bring them to life in the final product.
User Experience Designers will craft intuitive interactions and workflows
informed by market and audience research — typically in the form of sketches
called ‘wireframes’. Industrial designers with strong interaction design skills are
welcome to apply.

Design Developer
Meet Matt Rosno
I’m a Design Developer working on
IBM’s collaboration products. Using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and web-based frameworks,
I build working prototypes of our user interfaces based on great visual and interactive
designs from other members of the design team. I am the bridge between design and
software development.
Design Developers will use their expertise in front-end programming to quickly
prototype a working model of the assets and ideas generated by Visual, User Experience and
Research Designers. A strong background in front-end technology (web and mobile) is a must.

Design Researcher
Meet Maryam Ashoori
I’m a Design Researcher working on products
used in the automotive, aviation, and telecommunication industries. I specialize in
discovering, analyzing, and communicating user needs. I use my research to focus and
prioritize the design work done by other members of the innovation team. Together with
my project teams, I’ve been able to gain a deep understanding of how people in these
industries work by visiting and observing them in their work environments.
Design Researchers specialize in discovering, analyzing, and
socializing user needs, with a focus on empathic design. Through
quantitative research, Design Researchers develop user personas and the user ecosystem
to prioritize design work.

Design Lead
Meet Jeoff Wilks
I’m the Design Lead for the entire IBM
Business Process Management portfolio. I am responsible for the overall design and
consumability of four major products. I lead a team of cross-functional designers
that work in rotating groups across all of these products and their various releases.
I also engage directly with Product Management and Engineering for joint ownership
of the release of each product, and I actively participate in the design process as
a UX Designer and a Design Developer.
Design Leads can operate at varying levels of team leadership and responsibility.
Whether it is at a product, a portfolio, or a market level, Design Leads are change
agents. They direct teams and own bringing highly consumable solutions to market
through the entire innovation process.

We live in the shadow of what Eliot Noyes and the Eameses, Rand and Saarinen have done… It’s the same mission. It’s just different people.
