Containerization of CICS online applications

CICS TX is built on top of the capabilities of IBM TXSeries® for Multiplatforms (TXSeries) V9.1. CICS TX supports a subset of APIs and features of CICS Transaction Server for z/OS® (CICS TS). It allows you to containerize suitable CICS online applications using docker technology and make them portable across cloud platforms. Containerization also allows simplified continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipeline in DevOps.

Container orchestration using industry standard tools

You can achieve orchestration of CICS TX containers using K8s, which is an open-source container-orchestration system. It allows elastic scaling, self-healing, automated deployment and rollback of containerized CICS applications. This is also a widely accepted technology across multiple cloud vendors.

Manage application clusters using helm charts

You can easily create, deploy and upgrade application clusters using Helm charts. One of the key capabilities of Helm is the zero-downtime upgrades and rollbacks. This helps achieve application upgrades, applying product APARs and version-to-version upgrades with minimum business impact.

Monitor the experience in cloud

Observe CICS applications deployed on a cloud platform using industry standard tooling. Logs from application clusters can be centralized and analyzed using elastic stack. Key operational metrics are exposed to Prometheus (an open source monitoring system) and they can be visualized using Grafana (an open source metrics visualization and analytics platform).

Scale CICS online applications

CICS TX on Cloud allows the scope of CICS resources to be global across multiple instances of the same region. This enables horizontal scaling of CICS online applications without requiring application changes.

Integration with enterprise products

CICS TX on Cloud provides optimized bi-directional connectivity with CICS TS on IBM Z® and TXSeries for Multiplatforms. It can extend transaction capabilities with WebSphere Application Server using CICS Transaction Gateway and share data and business logic.

      CICS TX, V10.1 requires Docker runtime V17.12.1 as a minimum requirement and Kubernetes version 1.11.1, or later, for container orchestration.
