z/OSMF is managing z/OS from z/OS. The client application is loading from z/OS side and running in web browser. This saves effort and risk of maintaining client application on each individual personal workstation.

Https and SAF based, provide security

z/OSMF client communicates with back-end via HTTPS which provides communications security. The authentication and authorization of z/OSMF are also based on SAF which further provides z/OS security and is also consistent with existing security requirements of z/OS.

Single point of control across systems

Workload Management in z/OSMF provides a browser-based user interface that you can use to manage z/OS Workload Management (WLM) service definitions that provide guidelines for WLM to use when allocating resources. Specifically, you can define, modify, view, copy, import, export, and print WLM service definitions. You can also install a service definition into the WLM couple data set for the sysplex, activate a service policy, and view the status of WLM on each system in the sysplex.

Flexible performance resource monitoring

Resource Monitoring is a web-based user interface that you can use to monitor the performance of the z/OS, AIX, Linux, and Windows systems in your enterprise. You can monitor most of the metrics supported by Resource Measurement Facility™(RMF™) Monitor III, such as create and save custom views of the metrics, and display real-time data as bar charts.

Capacity provisioning manages domain

z/OSMF Capacity Provisioning provides a browser-based user interface for working with the z/OS Capacity Provisioning Manager that manages your domain configurations and policies. It also can be used to request various reports on the status of the z/OS Capacity Provisioning Manager.

REST data set, file services, jobs and console services

z/OSMF supports the use of Representational State Transfer (REST) APIs which allows easy-to-use services that are language- and platform-independent, stateless, scalable, and easily parsed. The z/OS data set and file REST interface services provide a programming interface for working with z/OS data sets and UNIX files. A set of REST services is provided for working with batch jobs and console services provide a programming interface for performing z/OS console operations.
