What IBM DL/I VSE can do for your business

IBM® Data Language One (DL/I) Virtual Storage Extended (VSE) is the hierarchical database management system for IBM z/VSE®. IBM DL/I is the language system used to access IBM Information Management System (IMS™) databases and its data communication system.

IBM DL/I VSE 1.12 is the DL/I release supplied with z/VSE V4.3 and later. It provides virtual storage constant relief in the 24-bit area.

DL/I has been adapted to execute in the new online environment of CICS® Transaction Server for VSE/ESA Release 1 on VSE/ESA Version 2 Release 4. It supports the CICS Transaction Server for VSE/ESA Release 1 storage protection.

IBM DL/I VSE

Allocation of DL/I resources above 16 MB

Allocate these resources above the 16 MB line of storage when running in a CICS/DLI online environment: PSBs, HD data buffers, most DL/I action modules, the MPS mirror program DLZBPC00 and more.

DL/I GETVIS storage in separate subpools

GETVIS storage allocation for different types of DL/I resources is assigned to different subpools including: DLIPSB, DLIWPS, DLIBFR, DLIMOD and DLIQWA.

More than one MPS system

With more than one Multiple Partition Support System (MPS), the DL/I Master Partition Controller for the DL/I MPS function can be activated in more than one CICS/DLI online partition at the same time.

More than four GB for HD databases

DL/I Hierarchical Direct (HD) databases can be allocated on more than one VSAM dataset to get over the 4 GB limit. Up to five datasets can be defined, increasing the maximum database size to 20 GB.

Support of CICS storage protection

IBM DL/I VSE supports the storage protection introduced with CICS Transaction Server for VSE/ESA Release 1. This increases the availability and integrity of the overall CICS/DLI online system.
