Welcome to the benefits site for new hires in IBM United States.
If you're new to IBM or are considering joining us, take a look around. You'll see that IBM offers a competitive benefits program, designed to help employees build a solid financial foundation for meeting a diverse array of needs — health care, income protection, retirement security, and personal interests. As of January 1, 2012, newly hired regular employees in the US are eligible for the programs described below.
Long term and retiree supplemental information is included in the documents below:
- A health benefits portfolio that provides strong support for employee well-being and preventive care, comprehensive coverage to meet a range of medical situations, and solid protection against the cost of serious injury or illness.
- Income protection in case of serious illness, injury or death, including life insurance and disability benefits.
- A retirement program that helps build future financial security through retirement savings and other capital accumulation programs.
- Opportunity to follow leisure pursuits through vacation, personal leave and holiday plans.
Regular IBM employees are eligible for all benefit programs, except the IBM Employees Stock Purchase Plan, beginning with the first day of employment. Health care coverage (medical, dental and vision) is available for you, your spouse/eligible domestic partner and eligible children and other dependents (documentation supporting eligibility is required). IBM provides a range of options, to allow employees to design a personalized program that meets their personal or family circumstances.
If you are a Retiree Supplemental, benefits do not begin until the 1st of the month following your date of hire.
Enrolling in benefits
Once you're on board at IBM, you'll have the chance to enroll in all the benefit programs for which you are eligible.
For health benefits, you'll use NetBenefits, which will display your personalized information (including the benefits for which you are eligible and their associated costs). Your coverage will be retroactive to your first day of employment. Each year, you can review and change your benefits during the enrollment period, usually held in the fall. Employees pay their share of benefit coverage through automatic payroll deduction.
To enroll in the 401(k) Plus Plan, you'll visit NetBenefits.
If you are beginning your employment with IBM as a result of a strategic outsourcing alliance, merger or acquisition, an IBM HR transition team will assist with your benefits enrollment.
