IBM Institute for Business Value ranked #1 for thought leadership quality

We’re proud to share that the IBM Institute for Business Value (IBM IBV) has once again been ranked the #1 thought leadership producer for quality among leading consulting and technology firms, according to Source Global Research.
This recognition comes from Source’s Quality Ratings of Thought Leadership for 2025, which evaluates a random sample of thought leadership from 19 firms using its White Space quality assessment methodology. This is IBM’s third straight year in the top position.
The four pillars of the Source methodology
Source assesses thought leadership using four quality pillars that reflect what senior executives value most:

IBM’s performance in the 2025 quality ratings
In the 2025 assessment, the IBM IBV ranked first overall across all firms reviewed. The IBM IBV also ranked first among all firms for prompting action, demonstrating a top-ranked ability to help leaders understand how to move from insights to next steps.
Across the remaining pillars—differentiation, appeal, and resilience—the IBM IBV consistently placed among the top performers.
Reports recognized in the assessment
Two IBM Institute for Business Value reports appeared among the highest‑scoring publications in the overall sample:

Why thought leadership quality matters
Source’s report observes that professional services firms are finding it harder to stand out as the volume of published content continues to grow. As a result, quality, relevance, and actionability are becoming more important differentiators than scale alone.
Prompting action, in particular, remains a persistent challenge across the market. While Source notes progress in this area compared with prior years, it highlights that firms that dedicate space to clear recommendations, frameworks, and case-supported guidance are better positioned to deliver value to executive audiences.
Source is not alone in their assessment of the current thought leadership landscape. According to the Global Thought Leadership Institute (GTLI), three of the most important standards for meaningful content are trustworthiness, original insight, and actionable impact.
And quality matters. 87% of executives who consume thought leadership say they’re likely to purchase business services from an organization based on the quality of their thought leadership.
Looking ahead
IBM’s #1 overall ranking reflects continued strength in delivering thought leadership that meets Source’s quality criteria, especially when it comes to helping executives translate insight into action.
As expectations for thought leadership continue to rise, maintaining relevance, credibility, and usefulness will remain central to delivering value for leaders navigating complex decisions.
A note of thanks
This recognition reflects the collective work of researchers, writers, designers, editors, marketers, and partners across the IBM Institute for Business Value. Creating thought leadership that resonates with senior leaders takes rigor, collaboration, and a shared commitment to quality.
Congratulations to everyone involved for continuing to raise the bar and helping leaders turn insights into action.
