Managing access to Analytics Engine powered by Apache Spark instances

If you want other users to use the provisioned Analytics Engine powered by Apache Spark instances to submit Spark jobs, you as instance creator and project administrator in IBM Cloud Pak for Data must grant them permission.

The following roles are used by the Analytics Engine powered by Apache Spark instance:

  • Administrator

This role has authority to manage a provisioned instance of a deployed Analytics Engine powered by Apache Spark service. Users who are assigned this role can view the instance details, manage user access (for example, give users Developer role) to the provisioned instance, delete the instance, and submit and cancel Spark jobs.

  • Developer

This role has authority to use a provisioned instance of Analytics Engine powered by Apache Spark. Users who are assigned this role can view the instance details and can submit and cancel Spark jobs.

To grant other users Developer role to a provisioned Analytics Engine powered by Apache Spark instance:

  1. Locate the service instance:

    1. From the Navigation menu on the IBM Cloud Pak for Data web user interface, click Services > Instances, find the instance and click it to view the instance details.
    2. From the options menu on the right side of the details window, select Manage access. Click Add users to grant users Admin or Developer role. From here, you can also remove a user’s access to the instance.

Important: If spec.serviceConfig.sparkAdvEnabled is set to true in the custom resource (CR), then a deployment space is associated with each instance. If a user is given permission to the Spark service instance, then that user must also be added to the deployment space as well.
