Post-installation tasks for Watson Knowledge Catalog

To finish setting up the Watson Knowledge Catalog service after installation, complete the mandatory tasks and the appropriate optional tasks.

Mandatory tasks

You must complete these tasks to set up Watson Knowledge Catalog.

Enable predefined governance artifacts Project administrator
Update the indexes in the XMETA database Cloud Pak for Data user

Setting up Watson Knowledge Catalog

Before platform users can work with Watson Knowledge Catalog, you must set up Watson Knowledge Catalog.

Required role
To complete this task, you must the Cloud Pak for Data admin user.

To set up Watson Knowledge Catalog, perform these tasks:

Enable the import of governance artifacts

To successfully import any governance artifacts, you must edit the wdp-policy-service deployment file to change the setting of the DPS_USER_DECISION_EVAL_NO_PRUNING flag to false.

Required role
To complete this task, you must be an administrator of the project (namespace) where you deployed the Watson Knowledge Catalog service.

To change the setting, complete the following steps:

  1. Log into the cluster:
    oc login <OpenShift_URL>:port
    
  2. Set the DPS_USER_DECISION_EVAL_NO_PRUNING environment variable to false in the wdp-policy-service deployment. Then, wait for the pods to become ready.
    oc set env deploy wdp-policy-service DPS_USER_DECISION_EVAL_NO_PRUNING=false
    

Enable predefined governance artifacts

You must enable predefined data classes and data rule definitions by updating the solr repository.

Required role
To complete this task, you must be an administrator of the project (namespace) where you deployed the Watson Knowledge Catalog service.

To update the solr repository, enter the following URL in your web browser:

https://<server>/ibm/iis/common-utils/rest/v1/app/reindex?batchSize=100&solrBatchSize=100&assetType=Information%20Analyzer%20Project

Replace server with the hostname or IP address of the Watson Knowledge Catalog master node.

Update the indexes in the XMETA database

You must update the indexes in the XMETA database to ensure good performance of SQL queries.

To update the indexes, complete the following steps.

  1. Download the required scripts from the compressed file attached to the following technote: Update the indexes in the XMETA database after installing Watson Knowledge Catalog
  2. Copy the scripts to the c-db2oltp-iis-db2u-0 pod:
    oc cp dq_manage_indices.sh c-db2oltp-iis-db2u-0:/tmp/dq_manage_indices.sh
    oc cp dq_create_indices.sql c-db2oltp-iis-db2u-0:/tmp/dq_create_indices.sql
    oc cp dq_drop_indices.sql c-db2oltp-iis-db2u-0:/tmp/dq_drop_indices.sql
    
  3. Log on to the Db2U pod:
    oc rsh c-db2oltp-iis-db2u-0 bash
    
  4. Change to the /initScrips directory:
    cd /tmp/
    
  5. Change the permissions of the script files:
    chmod 755 dq*.*
    
  6. Run the script to the update the indexes in the XMETA database:
    ./dq_manage_indices.sh
    

Optional tasks

You can perform the following optional tasks to enhance Watson Knowledge Catalog. You must have the appropriate permissions on the OpenShift cluster.
