What's new and changed in Common core services

The common core services release and subsequent refreshes can include new features, bug fixes, and security updates. Refreshes appear in reverse chronological order, and only the refreshes that contain updates for the common core services are shown.

Installing or upgrading the common core services

If you install or upgrade a service that requires the common core services, the common core services will also be installed or upgraded.

Refresh 5 of Cloud Pak for Data Version 3.5

A new version of Common core services was released in April 2021.

New features
The 3.5.4 release of the common core services includes changes to support features and updates in Watson™ Studio and Watson Knowledge Catalog.
In addition, the common core services includes the following features and updates:
Global search to support word or phrase searches
You can use search to find results that match the following elements:
  • A partial word anywhere in the data value (beginning, middle or end)
  • Any keyword that is provided
  • An exact match for all keywords that are provided

If you install or upgrade a service that requires the common core services, the common core services will also be installed or upgraded.

Bug fixes

This release includes the following fixes:

  • Issue: Opening a Git Integration page results in a 504 Gateway Timeout error.

    Resolution: Opening a Git Integration page no longer results in an error.

  • Issue: When Watson Studio is installed on big Power9 PowerVM worker nodes, the installation fails because the rabbitmq-ha-0 pod is terminated due to the OOMKilled error.

    Resolution: The Watson Studio installation no longer fails because the rabbitmq-ha-0 pod is no longer terminated.

  • Issue: Users cannot use Data Virtualization assets as a data source for a dashboard.
    Resolution: Data Virtualization assets can be used as a data source for a dashboard when the following two conditions are met:
    1. User credentials are added to the Data Virtualization connection in the project.
    2. The user is assigned an Admin or Steward role in the Data Virtualization service.
Watson Knowledge Catalog-related bug fixes
Platform Connections: Usability
  • Issue: Sort on name doesn’t work in the Platform Connections view.
  • Resolution: You can now click the connection name header to sort the connection name.
Platform Connections: Data Preview
  • Issue: When users with special double-byte characters in their display name are trying to preview an asset that involves masking, an error is produced.
  • Resolution: Data preview of masked assets will work now appropriately for usernames with special characters.

Platform Connections: Data Source Support
  • Issue: Test connection intermittently failing for Microsoft Azure Blob Storage connection.
  • Resolution: Test connection now works consistently for a Microsoft Azure Blob Storage connection.

Catalog: Asset Sync

  • Issue: Update of the description of an imported data file does not sync to the Watson Knowledge Catalog catalog.
  • Resolution: After importing a data file, you can now update the description and the updated description will sync to the Watson Knowledge Catalog catalog.

The common core services are automatically installed by services that rely on them. If you don't see these features in the web client, it's because the common core services are not supported by any of the services that are installed on your environment.
