Temporarily disabling the route to the platform

If you need to temporarily prevent users from accessing IBM® Cloud Pak for Data, you can disable the route to the platform in Red Hat® OpenShift®.

Before you begin

Required permissions: To complete this task, you must be a Red Hat OpenShift cluster administrator.

About this task

It is strongly recommended that you disable the route to the platform before you upgrade the Cloud Pak for Data control plane or any of the services running in Cloud Pak for Data. This prevents users from interacting with the software during the upgrade. After you are done with the upgrades, you can restore the route to the platform.

Procedure

To disable the route to the platform:

  1. Log in to your Red Hat OpenShift cluster as a cluster administrator:
    oc login OpenShift_URL:port
  2. Run the following command to get the list of routes:
    oc get route
  3. Copy and save the route that you are currently using for your Cloud Pak for Data.
Important: Ensure that you save this information in a safe place. If you lose or forget the route, you must direct your users to a new URL.
  4. Run the following command to delete the route:
    oc delete route Route_name

To restore the route to the platform:

  1. Log in to your Red Hat OpenShift cluster as a cluster administrator:
    oc login OpenShift_URL:port
  2. Retrieve the information that you saved before you deleted the route.
  3. Run the following command to re-create the route:
oc create route passthrough Route_name --service=ibm-nginx-svc
  4. Run the following command to annotate the route:
    oc annotate route Route_name haproxy.router.openshift.io/balance='roundrobin'
