The partition attention indicator for an IBM i5/OS partition is turned on when the partition detects an event that requires service as indicated by a new entry in the Service Action log. On stand-alone systems the partition also controls the attention indicator on the front panel of the server.

On HMC-managed servers, the server attention indicator is turned on if there are one or more logical partitions with an attention indicator on or if there is a new serviceable event for the server as indicated by the HMC's Manage Serviceable Events. The attention LED on the server's physical control panel should match the logical attention indicator shown on the HMC.

Stand-alone Systems or IBM  i logical partition
To turn off the system attention LED for an i5/OS partition (HMC-managed server) or a stand-alone i5 system (non-HMC-managed), do the following:

Step 1: On the operating system command line, type STRSST to start the System Service Tools.

On the command line, type strsst, and press Enter.

Step 2: Sign on the System Service Tools.

Step 3: Select Option 1, Start a service tool, and press the Enter key.

Select option 1 (start a service tool).

Step 4: Select Option 7, Hardware service manager, and press the Enter key.

Select option 7 (Hardware Service Manager).

Step 5: Select Option 6, Work with service action log, and press the Enter key.

Select option 6 (Work with Service Action Log).

Step 6: Type an early date (for example, 05/05/77) to catch entries that might have been set from before the time of day was set.

Adjust the date range. Type an early date (for example, 05/05/77) to catch entries that might have been set from before the time of day was set.

A screen similar to the following is shown:

The service action log report is displayed.

Step 7: Service Action Log entries are intended to be examined to determine what action is required. To clear the attention light, all errors must be acknowledged. This implies that the messages have all been reviewed. Press F6=Acknowledge All Errors.

Note: For stand-alone servers, this clears the attention light on the physical control panel. For HMC-managed servers, this clears the attention light that is set for this partition.

There are also options to close and delete entries that have been resolved.

HMC Version 7 and later: Turning off the server attention light.
Step 1: Check for serviceable events in the HMC.
Expand Systems Management > Servers. Select the server then Serviceability > Manage Serviceable Events. Click OK to view the events.

Manage serviceable events task.

Review any serviceable events, contacting your hardware service provider as needed.
Note: If the server attention indicator was activated due to one or more logical partition indicators, the service event list may be empty.

Step 2: Deactivate System Attention LED.
With the server still selected, choose Operations LED Status Deactivate Attention LED.

If you are using V7 HMC, select the CEC and then choose Deactivate Attention LED.
