IBM brand Intelligent Water Family IBM Work Optimization for Water Utilities Version 1.0.0

Work Optimization

By using IBM? Work Optimization for Water Utilitiesa water utility can optimize and more efficiently manage work associatedwith water management across a geographically dispersed infrastructure.

A significant part of a utilities operational expense is allocatedto maintaining and upgrading the infrastructure from responding toemergency situations to preventive maintenance and inspections. Each work item involves the dispatch of a crew from a central depotto the location of the work. In addition in many cases each workitem is composed of a set of dependent subtasks where each subtaskmight require a specific skill or equipment.

Water utilities can significantly benefit from analytics whichcan assign work to maximize utilization of crews and equipment whileminimizing unproductive driving time.

The following table describes the work optimization capabilitiesof IBM Work Optimization for Water Utilities.
Table 1. Work optimization features of IBM Work Optimization for Water Utilities.
CapabilitiesWhat does this do?
Interactive work order reportingProvides spatial and report-based visualizationof work orders by type season and problem codes based on the selectasset the start/end time analysis frequency (daily/monthly/weekly/yearly).
Manual spatial-temporal scheduling Is an interactive spatial-temporal schedulingtool that allows you to manually create a work management schedulebased on the selected asset time interval crew and work orders.Allows a water agency scheduler to manually select a task based ona map location and build a schedule which leverages the spatial proximityof resources tools and tasks.
Semi-automated spatial-temporal scheduling Is an interactive semi-automated spatial-temporalscheduling tool that creates a work management schedule. The scheduleis based on the selected asset time interval crew and work ordersand interleaves manual and automated schedule creation. This approachis a valuable transition route to fully automated scheduling and youcan adapt your business practices.
Automated spatial-temporal scheduling Provides fully automated spatial-temporal workmanagement scheduling based on the specification of asset time intervalwork order selection (including polygon selection) and crew. Theanalytics use a broad range of inputs including location of worktype of work job plan skill set equipment and priority to computeschedules that optimize utilization and minimize driving.
