"Windows cannot access \\Client\C$ ... You do not have permission to access..." when trying to open file located on client device

Troubleshooting


Problem

User opens a Controller function (for example 'Transfer - External Data - Import from Flat Files') which allows the user to browse for a file. User browses to their local hard drive (for example their laptop's C: drive). User receives an error message.

Symptom


Network Error
Windows cannot access \\Client\C$
You do not have permission to access \\Client\C$. Contact your network administrator to request access
