Question & Answer
Question
Why is bootpd logging IP address or hardware address not found?
Examples of bootpd messages may look like:
Oct 1 15:48:14 sys1 daemon:notice bootpd[2884226]: IP address not found: 192.168.1.249
Oct 7 10:18:24 sys1 daemon:notice bootpd[4981226]: hardware address not found: 34E6D7850648
Answer
The bootpd messages are logged because bootpd is running and sees an incoming bootp request.
If the MAC or IP address of the incoming bootp client is not found in the /etc/bootptab file, bootpd will log a message that the IP or MAC address is not found.
If bootpd is not supposed to be running, disable it to end these messages.
If bootpd should be running (ie the system is a NIM server) then you can safely ignore these messages.
