Resolving The Problem

Question: Is the IBM WebSphere Application Server on IBM i Software Application a chargeable item?

Answer:
There are four different types of offerings and three different editions available for WebSphere Application on IBM i.

Express Edition (WAS v8.5 and earlier)

The Express edition is the most common edition used by our client base. For this edition, there are two different offerings:
1. The Express (WEBENAB) edition for the IBM i is available free of charge as a feature code of the IBM Web Enablement product (5722-WE2). Note: The 5722-WE2 is not an installed LPP.

It can be obtained by ordering the IBM Web Enablement package from the IBM Entitled Software Support (ESS) Web site (https://www.ibm.com/eserver/ess/). You can also refer to the URL, http://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/684327, for more information on how to download this product offering.

Or it can be ordered by contacting your IBM Business Partner or IBM Marketing Representative.

You should refer to the following URL for more information:
https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/i/7.5.0?topic=programs-web-enablement-i-90-5733-w90

Because this offering is free, it is the most commonly ordered offering.
2. The Express edition is also available electronically using Passport Advantage; however, it is available only under the (chargeable) distributed Express license. Note: The Passport Advantage offering is the exact same product at the IBM Web Enablement offering. The only difference is the Passport Advantage offering is available for electronic download through the Passport Advantage Web site.

Base and Network Deployment (ND) Editions

WAS v8.5 and earlier
All Base and Network Deployment editions are chargeable. They can be obtained using Passport Advantage under the distributed Base and ND licenses.
