When modifying user property for SNMP, users need to set the password again if SNMPv3 uses a privacy protocol - IBM Flex System

Troubleshooting

Problem

[This abstract has been concatenated due to length constraints] The Integrated Management Module (IMM) Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) password needs to be reset after changing SNMP user account properties. The issue is seen in this circumstance: 1. Log into the IMM web interface and choose IMM Management --> Users. 2. On the User Credentials page, click Create User and assign a user name and password. 3. On the Authority page, click Next to assign Supervisor authority. Check the checkboxs for Use an authentication protocol and Use a privacy protocol, then fill in passwords. 4. In Access type, choose Set. Under the Linux client, use the 'snmpwalk' command to retrieve node information. It will return the node information successfully. 5. Go back to the browser and choose IMM Management --> Users. 6. Select the user just created to open the pop-up User Properties window. Under the SNMPv3 tab, change Access type to Set.

Symptom

The Integrated Management Module (IMM) Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) password needs to be reset after changing SNMP user account properties.

The issue is seen in this circumstance:

  1. Log into the IMM web interface and choose IMM Management, Users.

  5. Go back to the browser and choose IMM Management, Users.

  6. Select the user just created to open the pop-up User Properties window. Under the SNMPv3 tab, change Access type to Set.

  7. Under the Linux client, using the snmpwalk command to retrieve the node information will fail.

Affected configurations

The system may be any of the following IBM servers:

  • Flex System x220 Compute Node, type 2585, any model
  • Flex System x220 Compute Node, type 7864, any model
  • Flex System x220 Compute Node, type 7906, any model
  • Flex System x240 Compute Node, type 8737, any model
  • Flex System x440 Compute Node, type 2584, any model
  • Flex System x440 Compute Node, type 7917, any model

This tip is not option specific.

The following system firmware level(s) are affected:

  • 1AOO31M and previous levels

Solution

This behavior was corrected in IMM2 firmware version 1.88 Build ID: 1AOO40A.

The file is or will be available by selecting the appropriate Product Group, type of System, Product name, Product machine type, and Operating system on IBM Support's Fix Central web page, at the following URL:

Workaround

After changing the Access type from 'Get' to 'Set,' set the Privacy Password again using the same value and the node information can be retrieved using the 'snmpwalk' command under the Linux client.
