Question
What does the Page Generation Time mean?
Answer
Page Generation Time is the time required after the request has been received for the web infrastructure (WS/AS/DB) to process the response and begin transmitting it to the client browser.? This time value is recorded in microseconds in the request buffer.? It is the time between when the PCA saw the last packet of the request to the time when the first packet of the response is received by PCA.? This value is calculated and insert into the request as WS_Generation :
WS_Generation = ResponseStartTimeEx - RequestEndTimeEx
To make things clear an example of the Timestamp values extracted from the REQ buffer is shown:
RequestTimeEx=2010-03-23T11:05:06.059185Z
RequestEndTimeEx=2010-03-23T11:05:06.059185Z
ResponseStartTimeEx=2010-03-23T11:05:18.284914Z
ResponseTimeEx=2010-03-23T11:05:18.284914Z
ResponseAckTimeEx=2010-03-23T11:05:18.298734Z
TLapiArrivalTimeEx=2010-03-23T11:05:18.285103Z
If you follow the previous definition the WS_Generation time is approximately 12 seconds or 120000 microseconds. This value is considered as a Long Page Generation Time to one of our default system events.? The Long Page Generation Time event is available in the Event Editor:? All Events --> Page Generation.
It is noted that although the raw value is recorded in microseconds the event is based on milliseconds.? By default it is set to 10000 milliseconds which equates to 10 seconds.
