What does a HTTP 401 error mean in the archint.trace file when CommonStore for SAP fails to archive?

Question & Answer

Question

CommonStore for SAP fails to archive, and the archint.trace file shows an error similar to the following: 18:56:11 09/14 [00000] HTTP/1.0 401 Unauthorized X-csInfoS: RSP-ID 760154421 begin Connection: close Date: Wed Sep 14 18:56:11 GMT 2005 Server: CommonStore Internet Communication Interface/8.2.3 Content-Length: 0 Content-Type: text/plain X-pVersion: 0045 X-ErrorDescription: The resource is create protected. A security key is required. X-csInfoE: RSP-ID 760154421 end

Cause

Archiving is failing because a connection between the R/3 system and the CommonStore server cannot be established. This error indicates that there is an error in how HTTP communication was set-up.

Answer

See the chapter "Basic Setup" in the IBM DB2 CommonStore for SAP Server Installation and User’s Guide for a detailed explanation on configuring HTTP communication. Make sure that you correctly follow all the steps.

If you cannot successfully set up the HTTP communication, consider using RFC as an alternative.
