Question & Answer
Question
We are concerned about resource utilization and would like to collect MSGS PUT and MSGS read in the most efficient manner possible. In addition, what are the differences between these two methods?
Answer
MSGS PUT and MSGS read are provided by the QMQUEUES attribute group and, as you have noticed, the messages can be collected in either of the following ways by the MQ agent.
1) RESET QSTATS: This command requires PERFMEV to be enabled at the queue manager. When using RESET QSTATS, you should ensure that the MQ agent is the only application issuing the command, otherwise results may be unpredictable. RESET QSTATS has minor CPU overhead, irrespective of the queue manager workload.
2) APPLICATION STATISTICS FEATURE: This may have significant CPU overhead depending on your queue manager workload, since every MQI call for the queue manager is intercepted and processed. On the other hand, it provides more information on the applications the the RESET QSTATS command.
