Summary

If you have a "restricted" use license of DB2 ESE/AWSE that you got as part of another IBM products like Tivoli or WebSphere family and you want to use some of the advanced features of Db2. You can now buy a trade-up part called Db2 OEM High Capacity Add-on to get all of the features of AESE.

Objective

Applying  Db2 OEM High Capacity Feature option license (db2hc.lic) enables an unlimited usage for hardware specification which exceed 16 core processors and 128 GB memory.

Steps

1. As db2 user, run the following license manager command to check the license status.
[db2]$ db2licm –l show_detail
Product name:                     "DB2 Advanced Workgroup Server Edition"
License type:                     "Restricted"
Expiry date:                      "Permanent"
Product identifier:               "db2awse"
Version information:              "11.1"
Max amount of memory (GB):        "128"
Max number of cores:              "16"
Features:
IBM DB2 OEM High Capacity Feature:   "Not licensed"
2. As db2 user, unzip and install the IBM Db2 OEM High Capacity Restricted Use Activation(db2hc.lic) using the license manager.

[db2]$ db2licm –a db2hc.lic
LIC1402I  License added successfully.
LIC1426I  This product is now licensed for use as outlined in your License Agreement.  
USE OF THE PRODUCT CONSTITUTES ACCEPTANCE OF THE TERMS OF THE IBM LICENSE AGREEMENT,
LOCATED IN THE FOLLOWING DIRECTORY: "/opt/db2/product/11.1.0/license/en_US.iso88591"
3. As db2 user, verify the license for Db2 Advanced Workgroup Server Edition is now with the high capability option by running the following command:
[db2]$ db2licm -l
Product name:                     "DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition"
License type:                     "Restricted"
Expiry date:                      "Permanent"
Product identifier:               "db2aese"
Version information:              "11.1"

The following options is now not shown in the result:
    Max amount of memory (GB)
    Max number of cores
    The OEM High Capacity Feature
