What are the steps for upgrading IBM TRIRIGA Application (Portfolio) to recent versions?

Cause

Need to have the step-by-step for upgrading IBM TRIRIGA Application version to the most recent version.

Answer

Before upgrading the IBM TRIRIGA Application (Portfolio Data Manager) product to a more recent version, make sure you upgrade IBM TRIRIGA Platform (Framework) first.

Please, review the following IBM TRIRIGA Wiki documents for the instructions for upgrading your IBM TRIRIGA Platform product:

Upgrade to TRIRIGA Platform 3.5.x (platform only) if upgrading from TRIRIGA Application Platform version 2.5.x, 2.6.x, or 2.7.x; and TRIRIGA application version 9.x

Once the TRIRIGA Platform has been upgraded to version 3.3.1 or later, all later Platform upgrades are cumulative. Follow the steps in the link below:

NOTE: When upgrading, the release notes and readme files from each modification should be reviewed to understand all fixes and new functionality. As an example, when upgrading from 3.2.0/10.2.0 to 3.5.o/10.5.0 you would need to review release notes for:

Upgrading - Important Installation and Upgrade Information

You need to make sure the IBM TRIRIGA Application (Portfolio Data Manager) you are going to upgrade to is compatible with the IBM TRIRIGA Platform version you have. You will need to check the compatibility information on the following IBM Wiki pages:

(a) For the most recent IBM TRIRIGA Platform version - Complete IBM TRIRIGA Support and Compatibility Matrix

(b) For the old IBM TRIRIGA Platform versions - Archive of IBM TRIRIGA Support Matrices - (click on the Attachments tab and open the respective version PDF file).

Once you are all set with the IBM TRIRIGA Platform version, kindly follow this IBM Wiki document for upgrading your IBM TRIRIGA Application (Portfolio Data Manager) version (see this is incremental upgrade task):

Upgrade from TRIRIGA version 9.0 and TRIRIGA Application Platform version 3.0 to the most current application and platform releases

As additional recommendations:

(1) Have a good backup of your database before upgrading;

(2) When upgrading the IBM TRIRIGA Platform, start only one IBM TRIRIGA server instance initially, so that the post upgrade tasks are fired and convert the remaining records on the system. Starting all IBM TRIRIGA servers after upgrading platform may cause unexpected issues for versions before 3.5. Once the data conversion is complete (check sever.log), you can start other servers;

(3) When upgrading IBM TRIRIGA Platform version, check on the ant.log and Application Server (WebSphere or WebLogic) ant log files, to confirm you have got a successful upgrade without errors;

(4) When upgrading IBM TRIRIGA Application (Portfolio Data Manager) version, check on the OM package import logs to confirm you have successfully upgrades without any error. Check as well the server.log file when the Patch Helper Files finish processing, to confirm you don't have any error regarding this specific process (Tools>Administration>Data Integrator).

(5) Have a good backup of your database after upgrading;
